Online Copy Editor, July 2007 – January 2008

Transmitted the print edition of The Record, usually about 45 articles a day, from a newsroom
system to the content management system for Recordnet.com. I designed graphics and built
landing pages for special topics on the website.

I created player profiles for the media guide and assisted Director of Media Relations, Rory Miller, with running the press box. Before every game I created game notes, compiled notable statistics and, before every homestand, I wrote cover stories for the team’s game day magazine, PlayBall.

Weekend Reporter, summer 2006

I was the lone reporter working weekends and covered events, breaking news and enterprise stories. I had to come up with my own story ideas and wrote between two and five stories every weekend.

Assistant News Editor, fall 2006

I assisted the news editor with assigning and editing stories in addition to being the lead reporter for the paper. I covered sensitive subjects such as a student death, complex issues such as budget meetings and student life topics such as health code violations at bars.

Sports Editor, spring 2006

I was responsible for the sports section and led a staff of five writers and one designer. I assigned and edited stories, wrote headlines and cutlines, assisted the designer on story placement, wrote a column and was on the editorial board.

Assistant Sports Editor, fall 2005

I was the lead sports writer and assisted the sports editor with editing stories. I wrote between one and three stories a week.

Copy Editor, spring 2004

I was responsible for editing the sports section and helped coach reporters.

Education:

Graduated from California State University, Chico on May 19, 2007, with a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in news-editorial and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. I was a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and wrote for the student newspaper, The Orion.
